Congressman Bradley Byrne is praising a transportation bill passed by the House of Representatives Thursday.

Byrne says the bill is good news and a major step forward for the new I-10 bridge project.

“The passage of a long-term highway bill is very good news for the I-10 bridge project and other major road projects in Southwest Alabama,” said Byrne.

The House has voted to continue transportation programs for six years with no significant increase in spending. That’s despite warnings that the nation’s roads, bridges, and transit systems are falling apart.

“For years, we have been stuck in a dangerous cycle of passing short-term highway bills that made it almost impossible to start major highway projects. This bill would provide the certainty needed to move forward with new projects and make much-needed improvements to our nation’s ailing infrastructure,” said Byrne.

The bill passed on a 363-64 vote with wide bipartisan support. It authorizes $325 billion in spending through the 2021 federal budget year.
